    Enjoying this author immensely! I love the flawed characters... and that we get to experience a bit of life with them. Enjoyable read...can’t wait for the next book!

    To start with the book is much, much too long. There are too many characters with small side stories and so much repetition of the hockey theme. I loved A Man Called Ove and was sure this was going to be another good one, but I really did not enjoy this book and flipped through many pages to get to the end. Very disappointing.
  • Timely and Timeless

    So I read A Man Named Ove and loved it so I read Britt-Marie Was Here and loved it more so of course I got Beartown. Initially I didn't like it at all. There wasn't a beloved character. In fact, none of the characters were especially compelling. The story itself unfolded much in the same way the other two had, bit by bit, but without the beloved character it just seemed slow. Then it hit and oh my. Every second mattered after all. This one is different, though, so beware. It is deep and dark and real. It is happening. Read it.
  • Poignant characters woven into an extraordinary story

    This is my first time reading Mr Backman, but will certainly not my last. His unique story telling and character development are second to none, even Jodi Picoult. Poignant characters are carefully woven into a story that could be about any small town in any country. This is not a "hockey" book, it is a beautifully crafted story full of life's lessons and life's learnings.
